A hidden bush farmstay in the Snowy Mountains
Snowy River Cabins is run by Brendan & Hayley May who bought the property 'Lappi' in 2013. We are a family who love where we live and love sharing this beautiful property with our visitors.
Only 2 hours from Canberra this 4WD access farmstay sits in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains and on the banks of the Snowy River. The property was named for its similarities to Lapland by the Finnish family who built the cabins in 1980 using traditional Finnish building methods from solid cedar logs. The guest sauna and laundry are also built in the same method. The traditional building methods certainly help when the temperatures hit -15 overnight in winter.
The farmstay is around 45 minutes from both Cooma and Jindabyne, make sure you bring everything you need with you, and have plenty of fuel in your 4WD as there are no shops nearby!
Our cabins are self contained with their own kitchens and bathrooms. They are secluded and you cannot see another cabin from your cabin. The river is crystal clear, as is the night sky. Its quiet, so so quiet. The views, the bush and the river are all a photographers dream. See kangaroos, wombats and echidnas in abundance.
We know that Snowy River Cabins isn't for everyone. Its a remote location, the 20km of gravel access roads can get very rough and the causeways can get quite deep. Its a 4WD access farmstay, there's no mobile service, no internet and no TVs. Our Cabins are traditional cabins, so they are quite small - this helps with keeping them warm (as does the solid timber walls and double glazing) but it does mean there's not a lot of room in them!
So if that hasn't scared you off, if you like an adventure down a bush track to a hidden gem, then hit book now! We look forward to welcoming you.
